Invoice your customers
Sales invoices bill your customers for what they ordered. Create invoices directly or from sales orders (pre-filled with the order's details), generate PDFs to share, manage invoice status, handle returns, and kick off payment recording from the invoice.
Before you start
- For order-led invoicing, confirm and ship the sales order first. See Manage sales orders.
Create an invoice
- Go to Sales > Sales Invoices.
- Create a new invoice directly — or, faster, invoice a sales order so the invoice screen opens pre-filled with the order's details.
- Add or review the customer and invoice lines.
- Review the invoice and save it.
Manage invoice status and actions
From Sales > Sales Invoices, you can:
- Manage status — mark invoices as sent, pending, or cancelled.
- Generate a PDF — produce the invoice PDF to share with the customer.
- Duplicate — copy an existing invoice.
- Delete — remove an invoice.
- Record payment — opens the payment screen pre-filled with the invoice details. See Record customer payments.
- Returns — handle customer returns from the invoice.
Note: sharing invoices by email. Invoices cannot currently be emailed directly from the invoice screen. Share the invoice with your customer as a PDF document — and remember that buyers can also view their invoices themselves in your Customer Portal.

Tips
- Invoice from the sales order whenever one exists — the pre-filled screen removes rekeying and keeps the invoice tied to the order.
- Keep invoice statuses up to date (sent, pending, cancelled) — they drive a clean picture of what is outstanding. See Track outstanding and aging.
- If the customer returns goods, start from the invoice's Returns action so the return stays linked to what was billed. Credit notes can be issued where needed — see Credit notes.
