Manage product attributes

Products > Attributes lists every attribute your products' variants carry — such as Colour, Size or Material — with each value, how many items carry it, and one picture per value. Product finders show that picture for the value unless a finder step sets its own.

Before you start

  • Attributes come from your products' variants: a value appears here as soon as a variant carries it. See Products and variants.
  • You can also add an attribute or a value here before any product carries it.

Give a value its picture

  1. Go to Products > Attributes and select the attribute.
  2. In the values list, click the square in the Picture column for a value.
  3. Choose the picture. It is saved for that value straight away.

The picture is set once, here, and every product finder that lists the value shows it. To use a different picture in one finder, set it on that finder's step. See Set up product finders.

Add an attribute or a value

  • Add Attribute asks for the Attribute Name and, optionally, its first values — one per line. You can add more later.
  • Add Value on an attribute adds one more value to it.

Rename an attribute or a value

  1. Open the attribute's actions and choose Rename Attribute, or a value's actions and choose Rename Value.
  2. Enter the new name. The dialog says how many products and variants the rename reaches.

A rename rewrites every product that carries the attribute or value, and the product finders that name it.

If the new name already exists, ARC asks before doing anything: Merge Into the existing one moves every product to it and updates the finders. When you merge attributes, a product that already has the target attribute keeps its own value.

Delete an attribute or a value

  1. Open the actions and choose Delete Attribute or Delete Value.
  2. Read what the delete touches. When products carry it, the confirm button says how many — Remove from N Products and Delete — and the delete removes it from those products. This can't be undone.

The dialog also names the product finders that use it. A deleted value is removed from their value order, pictures and open-from rules. When a finder uses a deleted attribute as a step or row label, ARC leaves that label for you to change: open the finder in the finder editor and choose a replacement.

Tips

  • Agree on attribute names before importing products. Merging "Color" and "Colour" later works, but fixing names first keeps finders and filters tidy.
  • Search with Search Attributes or Values to find one value across every attribute.
